Media and Information Literacy

IMPRESSION AND EXPERIENCE

Media and Information Literacy was very new to my ears and made me think "MIL? We're learning about social media? Really? Why though?" as a first impression. MIL was indeed a journey yet it made me gain knowledge and expanded the very little information I have on media. I got interested in the things I usually don't bother to look at or bother to know deeper. As I got more submerged in media, I usually didn't think much when posting or chatting. With the knowledge I gained through MIL, I have been more cautious and more aware of the limitations, do's, and don't of social media.

IMPORTANCE

As a student who's around technology and social media, we are now much more involved in the different types of media and we often overlook how important it is for us and our daily activities. Simple things such as searching, posting, or commenting may not be that important to us yet were applying the basics of MIL. Researching is required in school activities as well as for my dream job and by doing it, I can acquire a lot of information. As someone who dreams to be a journalist or writer, knowledge of MIL is essential for me as I always need to fact-check every piece of information I  gather and use, as well as make sure that everything is valid and not untrue. Media and Information literacy is very important for me as a student which made me very grateful to have attended the class in my senior year in high school.

NATION-BUILDING

Technology and media play a huge part in our daily routine and we still often overlook their importance and mindlessly use it. It makes us wonder what more media and technology can offer and how can we use them to their fullest. We dreamt of a world that's open, united, and accepts everyone without caring about the physical differences we may have or any differences in our culture. There was a huge problem with the injustice and discrimination they experience due to their differences yet with the help of media and technology, their voices have been heard and slowly some changes and improvements have been made. It's indeed impossible to eradicate all discrimination but it's no one's loss if we strive to improve our nation and make it into a better place for the future generation, free of injustice, free from discrimination, and united.
